A seasoned gardener with a green thumb and a heart full of stories. I have two decades of digging in the dirt under my belt, plus an additional 15 years if you count those childhood days spent potting 'brain' flowers (Celosia/Cockscomb). My gardening journey reads like a mix of comedy and triumph. There was that ambitious attempt at a veggie garden under a walnut tree (spoiler alert: not the best idea), and let's not forget the infamous tomato monster incident - who knew baby tomato plants could grow so wild when left to their own devices? But amidst the chaos and occasional plant casualties, there are also plenty of success stories. Take my tea garden, for example, boasting lemon balm, bee balm, and echinacea, the ultimate winter cold-fighting trio. And then there's my perennial garden, anchored by my beautiful hydrangeas, that has served as a place of respite for me.
When I haven't been knee-deep in soil, I've been bustling behind my two kids and a neighborhood full of friends. I've chosen to leave my corporate life as an adult educator and program manager and put my skills to use in the garden. My aim is to make gardening simple for anyone--busy parents, new homeowners, or anyone wanting to feel more connected to nature--by giving you the tools, resources, and help to just get out their and grow!

The Tree Guy

A rugged lumberjack with a heart as big as the forests he tends. Despite his seemingly innate connection to the outdoors, Lucas's journey to becoming a tree whisperer extraordinaire was anything but straightforward.

Armed with a college degree in ecology and a deep appreciation for the forest, Lucas knew from the start that his path lay among the trees. It wasn't until over six years ago, however, that his true calling manifested. Leaving behind the confines of retail, Lucas embarked on a thrilling adventure with Asplundh, where he fearlessly swung from treetops and wielded chainsaws with the precision of a seasoned pro, all while dodging live wires mere inches away.

Life, as it often does, nudged Lucas in a new direction. Drawn to the quieter rhythms of life, he found himself dedicated to preserving Winona, MN's treescape. From taming unruly boulevard trees to salvaging storm-damaged giants and trimming pesky low-hanging branches, Lucas became a guardian of the city's arboreal wonders.

But Lucas's passion extends beyond simply felling trees. Training as an arborist and fueled by a profound love for all things natural, he's equally enthusiastic about nurturing and caring for the living. So, if you're in need of a tree-saving superhero or simply crave tales from the great outdoors, Lucas is your go-to guy. With him at the helm, your trees will thrive, your forests will flourish, and your heart will be as full as the tallest redwood.
